20 Years On - Think Global, Eat Local

It is a very special time for Bob and Georgia and the team at Kendricks because on the 1st March the restaurant will be 20 years old! If you have ever been to Dartmouth you will no doubt know Kendricks, located in Fairfax Place where it has been one of the towns ever popular eateries for years (did we mention we are twenty!).

Opened by Bob and Georgia in 2000, Kendricks has been serving great food at affordable prices in a fun and lively atmosphere ever since. Bob was born in Canada, but moved to the South Hams when he was 7. He studied photography at Plymouth Art College, and then trained as a carpenter, which makes him very ‘handy’ to have around! He eventually settled in Dittisham, where he worked for Fingals Hotel in Dittisham, for many years.

Georgia has lived in the South Hams since she was 2, training at secretarial college and working as head receptionist at Burgh Island Hotel. Her father George Hardy was born and bred in Dartmouth, and her grandfather Vernon Hughes was Dartmouth’s Public Health Inspector from 1947 until his retirement! Georgia also lived in Dittisham and so fate brought her together with Bob, and after working in many restaurants around the world whilst backpacking, they felt there was a gap in the market and an opportunity to open a restaurant serving their kind of food.

They recently opened their sister restaurant Dartmouth Eats, which covers the daytime food offering and is just along from Kendricks in Lower Street, and you can expect the same high quality food there from breakfast to lunch to afternoon teas.

Hence Kendricks was born, the same year they got married, which incidentally is why Kendricks is called Kendricks, it is their surname!

The restaurant has gone from strength to strength with a very loyal following of both local customers and visitors alike. If you haven’t tried their chilli, or the ribs, you are seriously missing out! Food is served Californian style and you can always be sure of great quality, locally sourced ingredients, all year round. The vibe is casual, with a definite sense that all customers should have an enjoyable time with friends or family. The whole team are dedicated to making sure this is the case.
